Kandhamal: Demanding resignation of ministers and immediate release of compensation for the victim’s kin, Kandhamal Surakshya Abhiyan with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party called for a dawn-to-dusk 12-hour bandh here on Thursday, three days after a class 8 girl delivered a baby in hostel premises.

Daily life came to a grinding halt as agitators were seen picketing at main roads, in addition to schools, shops and business establishments downing their shutters. Vehicular movement came to a standstill due to the bandh, however emergency services have been kept out the purview of the strike.

Immediate release of compensation for the victim’s kin, resignation of ministers and stringent actions against other officials were the main demands of the outfit. Several social organisations and political parties including the BJP have extended their support towards the bandh.

The saffron party BJP demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident and transfer of the district collector. On the other hand, the district administration has taken adequate security measures to avoid any untoward incident.
