Bhubaneswar: The Central Government should enhance the financial assistance provided to farmers under PM-KISAN scheme to Rs 10,000 per year, said Agriculture Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera on Sunday in context of a letter written by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, the Central Government has announced to provide Rs 6,000 per year as income support to small and marginal farmers holding cultivable land upto two hectares. The amount will be distributed in three installments.

However, Patnaik in a letter to Modi on Saturday asked him to enhance the scale of assistance to at least Rs 10,000 per annum per family and also include landless agricultural labourer, share croppers and vulnerable agricultural households under the scheme.

Behera said, the State Government has already uploaded list of around 12 lakh farmers to be included as beneficiaries of PM-KISAN, but they should be provided Rs 10,000 as assistance.

On being asked about if any beneficiaries have been left out, Behera said the list of remaining farmers will be sent phase wise as nothing happens overnight.
