Bhubaneswar: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) is all praise for all the polling officials of Odisha for conducting the four-phased elections, re-polls and counting of votes smoothly as well as in a free and fair manner.

This was informed by Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today at a press conference here while briefing media on the final results of General Elections (both Lok Sabha and Assembly).

Talking to media, Odisha CEO Surendra Kumar said, “In Odisha, the EVM failure rate has been registered under 2% (1.56 or 1.57%) due to the good training imparted by us. This is in comparison to other states as per the certificate given by the Election Commission that it is one of the best ratios maintained and this is a direct reflection of the proper training.”

He explained, “Because, ultimately it is delivered at the field level where neither the Chief Electoral Officer nor the Returning Officer operate the EVM. At the field level, the presiding officers, polling officers and the sector officers are deployed. The chance of failure is less when they apply their proper training.”

“I would like to thank all the voters because the election can’t be successful without their cooperation. 73-74% of polling is a very good achievement. Even in the sizzling summer, the people turned up and participated in the mega festival of our nation as well as strengthened the democracy. I congratulate and thank all the voters, all political party workers and leaders. We express our gratitude to them all for cooperation and helping us conduct the polls successfully,” the Odisha CEO mentioned.
