Bhubaneswar: The news of a Class 8 girl delivering a baby boy shook the State to the core on Sunday following which SC & ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi had ordered a probe into the matter. Taking further stock of the situation, he informed today that the Government is all set to install CCTV cameras in as many as 1000 residential schools.

“We have treating the issue with utmost attention. 6 persons have been dismissed and four have been suspended in connection with the incident. School children are the government’s topmost priority. So, arrangements are being made to install CCTV cameras in as many as 1000 hostels with priority to girls’ hostel. A meeting will also be held with teachers, parents and guardians. According to their grievances, necessary steps will be taken,” he said.

After reports of a Class 8 girl delivering a baby inside hostel premises in Kandhamal came to the fore on Sunday, two matrons, one health worker (ANM), two CCAs cook-cum-attendants and one warden had been dismissed while three women Assistant Superintendents were suspended. aking matter into their hands, the district Collector has suspended the school’s headmistress Radharani Dalai today.

According to Kandhamal SP Pratik Singh, "The girl was raped 8 months back at her village by a 23-year-old Shravan Kumar Pradhan. She couldn't reveal it before anyone out of fear and shame. The main accused has been detained.”
