Bhubaneswar: Cannes 2019 has an uncanny connection with Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha. The first poster and the teaser of a Hindi movie ‘Jungle Cry’ were released at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival in France. And this movie is based on the true story of world champion under-13 rugby team who hail from KISS (Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences) in Bhubaneswar.
It is scheduled to be released at the House of Lords on May 20, and have a box office release in September 2019. But before the Box Office release, Jungle Cry will take part in different competitions across the globe.
Bollywood actor Abhay Deol is in the lead role, playing the main character of Rudrakesh Jena, the Rugby coach of KISS, who guided the team of tribal boys to a historic victory in the Junior Rugby World Cup. Emily Shah plays the role of a physiotherapist.
The shooting of the film has been done in Odisha and London. Almost 80 percent of the shooting was done in Odisha, and some rugby students of KISS even stayed in London for around a month for its shooting.
This movie is quintessentially the story of how KISS, founded by the eminent educationist and social activist Dr Achyut Samanta, promoted rugby and helped the impoverished tribal boys to make an identity of their own in this world.
