Bhubaneswar: The Union Cabinet Secretary on Friday held video conferencing (VC) with Odisha Chief Secretary in a bid to review the developmental activities undertaken by the different ministries of the Union Government especially in the 35 left wing extremism (LWE)-affected districts in India.

Briefing to media after the VC, Odisha Home Secretary Asit Tripathy informed that discussions were held on the two LWE-affected districts of Koraput and Malkangiri in the state.

Tripathy said that Odisha apprised the Cabinet Secretary on the letter written by the Chief Minister to Railways Minister for the inking of pact for two railway lines of Jeypore-Malkangiri and Jeypore-Nabarangpur already sanctioned in the 2016-17 Railway Budget.

He added that Odisha Government has already offered to bear 25% of the construction cost for the Jeypore-Malkangiri project while for the Jeypore-Nabarangpur project 50% construction cost along with provision of land free of cost.

As Government of India is giving priorities to implement more and more Central schemes in the LWE-affected districts of the country, Odisha brought to the Centre’s notice that 51 GPs of the two districts have no post offices while 85% of their GPs have no banks that need to be addressed soon, Tripathy further added.

He also informed that Odisha Government also sought opening of a second Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Koraput district.
