Bhubaneswar: Gracing the summit ‘Empowering Young Grampreneurs To Create Jobs’ as Chief Guest, Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu today lauded the pioneering role of BYST across the nation and commended BYST’s Odisha achievements.

As the summit’s Guest of Honour, Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal also patted BYST for its pioneering role and commendable achievements in the State.

In his keynote address, Vice President of India said, "One possible way to address youth unemployment is to support young people in creating their own businesses. It is generally accepted that entrepreneurs create jobs, increase innovation, raise competition and are responsive in changing economic opportunities and trends.”

“I am glad that BYST continues to play a pioneering role in the development of young Grampreneurs through mentoring across the nation and their achievement in Odisha is commendable,” he eulogized.

Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal also said, "BYST has played a pioneering role in the development of youth entrepreneurship through mentoring, across the nation."

In her welcome address, BYST Founding and Managing Trustee Lakshmi V Venkatesan said, “BYST appreciates the foresight of Tata Steel and JK Paper for their support in bringing the BYST's unique national mentoring programme to Odisha. Mentoring entrepreneurs including tribal and marginalised youth in Jajpur and Rayagada has resulted in many of them creating jobs and becoming lakhpatis.”

After winning the award, entrepreneur Basanti Rana said, "I believe the recognition I got through BYST- TSL Business Excellence Award has further fuelled my dream of becoming a successful woman entrepreneur.

Expressing his views, BYST- JKP Business Idea Contest first winner Dileswar Chaini said, "BYST contest gave me an opportunity to express my idea that I was convinced about but could not convince others easily. The contest is an excellent platform for youth with innovative ideas to get due acknowledgement and motivation."

The summit showcased the achievements created over the past five years by BYST in rural regions of Odisha including Jaipur, Kalinganagar and Rayagada and also enlightened the youth of Odisha about the opportunities of turning their innovative business ideas into viable business and support them through mentoring not only to earn their livelihood but also to create employment, a press note stated. It further stated that the summit showcased the work done by BYST in Odisha through its partnership with Tata Steel and JK Paper, which has produced over 700 new business ventures.

Since inception, BYST has supported 8000 entrepreneurs mentored by 6000 mentors who in turn have created more than quarter of rnillion jobs, the press note claimed.

Notably, the summit was organized by Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) in collaboration with Tata Steel Ltd, JK Paper Ltd and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Rail Auditorium here in Odisha capital city today.

The summit commenced with a motivating session 'Grampreneurs Millionaires in the Making' for the entrepreneurs and mentors.
