Malkangiri: In a tragic incident, a young employee of a bridge construction company got drowned in the river while carrying out survey work for the bridge to be built across the river.

While the surveyor has been identified as Soubhagya Maharana, his complete identity is yet to be ascertained.

Soon after the mishap took place, the local ODRAF team was informed and the personnel swung into rescue operation.

Till the filing of the report, the rescue operation was still on and the body was not fished out.

The incident took place today at about 10 am when Soubhagya along with his three other colleagues were undertaking survey work for the proposed bridge to be built over river Pangam under Maithili Police Station (PS) limits.

The surveyor were measuring the depth of the river.

The new bridge is to be constructed in place of the existing Pangam Bridge due to the ongoing expansion work of Ranchi-Vijaywada National Highway (NH)-36.

Soubhagya is an employee of a private firm named B.K Consultancy of Bhubaneswar.
