Bhubaneswar: The State Government has suspended Dr Biju Agrawal, who is presently working as Consultant (Paediatric) at SDH Patnagarh in Bolangir district, for prescribing wrong injection to a child while violating the instructions of Niramaya scheme.
Reportedly on November 25, Dr Agrawal had prescribed a wrong injection to a one-year-child suffering with diarrhoea. Further in violation of Niramaya scheme, under which free medicines should be provided to patients in all government hospitals, he had prescribed a substitute which the patient’s family members had to buy from outside.
The incident came to notice of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda during his recent visit to the hospital following which a disciplinary action was initiated against Dr Agrawal.
With the disciplinary proceeding against Dr Agrawal contemplated, he has been placed under suspension. During the period of his suspension, Headquarters of Dr Agrawal shall be District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Bolangir, read a letter from the H&FW department.
The letter further stated that Dr Agrawal shall not leave the Headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority. Besides, he shall be entitled to the payment of subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule-90 of the Odisha Service Code.
