Boat Capsizes In Kendrapada, Narrow Escape For 17 Passengers

Kendrapada: As many as 17 passengers escaped narrowly while crossing the Gobari river here on a boat on Monday. The boat capsized midway after which all the passengers drowned in the river passing through Mahbakalpada.

The incident took place few metres away from thbe Bijaynagar ‘ferry-ghat’ today afternoon. There were six motorcycles in the boat out of which two have been fished from the river so far.

Villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the drowning passengers. They were taken to the local hospital and administered first-aid. A few of them sustained minor injuries.

Sources said that the boat was carrying more passengers than its permissible capacity which resulted in the mishap. Local police have registered a case and investigating further.
