BMC Promotes Barrel Composting From Govt Officials' Residences

Bhubaneswar: In order to make sanitation a citizen driven approach and to have a behaviour change among the families, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started promoting barrel composting.

A team of BMC senior officers along with team of experts started the initiative today by visiting residences of senior State-level officers' and oriented them on barrel composting. The team demonstrated the officers about how to place the barrel and dilute the EM solution with water.

On spot demonstration was quite helpful for the promotion. The objective of starting the initiative with Government officials is to show the practical effect to citizens.

The team visited residences of seven officials for the purpose and an educative colour leaflet was shared with the officers during orientation. The team also narrated how the practice will help reduce volume of garbage in the city and in what way it is social, financial, behavioural and eco-friendly.

Deputy Commissioner, Sanitation, Suvendu Kumar Sahoo said the initiative will be promoted among the citizens to make the city sanitation participatory. He further informed that massive awareness in different formats will be done in coming days.
