Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is keenly considering to engage Self Help Groups (SHGs) for collection of revenue in its wards, said an official of the BMC.

"We are in the process of converting all our wards into revenue wards. One SHG will be vested with the responsibility of revenue collection -holding tax and trade license tax in each ward. We have invited bids through tender," informed Prem Chandra Choudhury, Commissioner BMC speaking to Ommcom News.

"They (SHGs) will be given a certain percentage of the revenue collected as incentive. We propose to give one percent of the revenue collected as the incentive," he added.

The Commissioner said that the SHGs will be provided with Point of Sale (POS) machines which will be fully automatic having details of the holding similar to billing for electricity.
