Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers today barged into the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the capital city alleging the inefficiency and corruption in the government body. Hundreds of BJP activists, including women, gheroed the office and reportedly hurled eggs as a mark of protest.

The BJP activists shouted slogans against CM Naveen Patnaik and BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

The protest took an ugly turn when a scuffle ensued between the policemen and the BJP workers as the activists attempted to break barricades and threw water pouches at the policemen. However, around 200 activists were detained by the police and the situation was brought under control.

Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena clarified, “Everyone has the right to ask information regarding anything through the RTI Act. One can enquire into anything from the office. Bhubaneswar has been declared as the No 1 Smart City in India and best planned city. Rome was not built in a day. We need co-operation of all to develop this city.”
