Bhubaneswar: Staying true to his words, Odisha Chief Minister cum BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has fielded seven women candidates out of 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha. Following this, praises poured in for the veteran leader from various sectors of the nation. Even Shaina NC, the spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, did not hold back from congratulating the Chief Minister.
Shaina NC tweeted, "All political parties need to wake up. Women are 50 percent or the electorate. Upset and appalled to know that other than @MamataOfficial who has given 41 percent and @Naveen_Odisha who has given 33 percent to women candidates all other parties only pay lip service to our cause."
It is notable to mention here that Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has also fielded 17 women candidates out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal. Her move came few days after Naveen Patnaik announced that 'BJD will be sending 33 per cent women to the Parliament'.
The women candidates from Biju Janata Dal are Dr Rajashree Mallick (Jagatsinghpur), Sarmistha Kumari Sethi (Jajpur), Chandrani Murmu (Keonjhar), Pramila Bisoyi (Aska), Sunita Biswal (Sundargarh), Manjulata Mandal (Bhadrak) and Kaushalya Hikaka (Koraput).
