Bhubaneswar: In response to BJP leader and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s press meet today, ruling BJD retorted with a data-based fitting reply and turned the table on the saffron party’s tall claims of ‘double engine’ formula of development in the States already ruled by the saffron party.

On the final day poll campaigns for the ongoing four-phased general elections (both Lok Sabha and Assembly) in the State, BJP held a press meet earlier in the day lashing at Naveen Patnaik’s 19- year-old Government in Odisha and reiterated its would be ‘double engine’ formula in a bid to build ‘new Odisha.

Countering the Union Minister’s allegations, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra averred, “20 lakh pucca houses have been built. The Central Ministry has admitted it. By constructing 41,000 rural roads, Odisha has earned accolade being No 1 in India. Your Central Government is giving these awards after awards. Is it false, Dharmendra Babu? Try to speak the truth.”

“You are having your Central Government in the last five years, also in Gujarat. BJP is trumpeting about Gujarat Model but ironically Gujarat has turned the most backward State in India today. It’s crystal clear how double engine is derailing India. But the BJD Government’s single engine has made Odisha forward in the last 19 years, has also made it progressive, we have gone ahead in development and in all parameters,” he lambasted, adding, “This is not our claim, but claimed by NITI Aayog and the Central agency.”

Arguing further, “In terms of poverty alleviation, it is being stated Odisha is ahead in the country by uplifting above 25% poor population”, the BJD spokesperson ridiculed, “NITI Aayog claims that the most poverty stricken is Chhattisgarh where there was double engine government ruled by the BJP for the last 15 years. Second is Jharkhand, third is Manipur, fourth Arunachal and fifth position is that of Bihar. In terms of healthcare schemes implementation, the most backward is Assam, second is Uttar Pradesh, third is Nagaland. In the poor performance of MGNREGA, the States are Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh. On the contrary, the Central Government is awarding Odisha’s five districts for performance in health in 2018-19. Most five poor performing States in implementation of Mamata Yojana are Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa all ruled by BJP.”

“BJP and its double engine formula have made India backward. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan mentioned today about ‘Nabeena Odisha’ (new Odisha). Questioned about Naveen Babu and Odisha identity. Person like you (Dharmendra Pradhan) can’t understand about new Odisha. You are unable to accept the truth. You are telling lie,” burst the BJD spokesperson.

On the other hand, Dharmendra Pradhan in the BJP’s press meet had said, “The people of Odisha entrusted you (Naveen Patnaik) with a very big responsibility of Odisha for 19 years. But, as you lack the political will and love for the poor people, Infant Mortality Rate, malnutrition, poverty in Odisha have been below in the rating today. You have lied to the people of Odisha.”

He has also questioned Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, “Today explain what you have done in the last 19 years and what you are going to deliver in the next five years.”

He has further appealed the people reminding Modi appeal, “If you vote us to power in Odisha, we’ll perform five-times more than the BJD Government.”
