Puri: BJP candidate for Satyabadi Assembly seat, Om Prakash Mishra, has been accused of attacking a Presiding Officer and damaging EVM machines during the Phase-III polling at Birakesarpur in Puri on Tuesday.

Presiding Officer Shibram Mohapatra of Balabhadra Nodal Up School polling station at Birakesarpur alleged that at around 5.30 PM, when he had asked the remaining voters to remain within the booth premises, Mishra along with 200 bike-borne supporters gathered near the booth.

Out of them 15 persons barged into the booth and attacked him. They also destroyed the EVM machines and tore some important poll documents. One of them also brandished a gun but villagers came to the rescue of Mohapatra.

Villagers seized the gun and also detained two persons among the accused. Following which Mohapatra apprised the District Collector about the incident and also lodged a police complaint in this regard.

Earlier on April 19, BJP candidate for Sorada assembly seat, Nilamani Bisoi, had been arrested by police for destroying an EVM machine at a booth in Renti village under Sorada police limits.
