Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik today announced that his party will soon start a social service wing.

"It will focus on plantation and environment, blood donation and health assistance. Our objective would be to make Odisha clean and green and people of Odisha healthy," informed Patnaik at the launching of the BJD's 'Jan Sampark Padyatra'-people connect drive from the Kargil Basti here on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Patnaik said among all programmes of his party, social service was his favourite.

He exhorted the youth to come forward and join the social service wing and transform it into a powerful movement.

The BJD president said that he was indebted to the people of Odisha and his party workers for blessing him to serve the State once again.

"Our padyatra is an opportunity to meet people. During this period you should focus on two things. First, understand the problem faced by the people, second the good work done by the government should reach the people," Patnaik told party workers.

He reminded his party workers that the 'Jeevan Bindu' programme which was started a few years back has turned out to be a successful blood donation movement in the country.

He pointed out that till date three lakh units of blood have been collected while 10 lakh people have joined the movement.
