Bhubaneswar: Even as only four days are left for filing of nominations for the Bijepur bye-election, Odisha's ruling party-Biju Janata Dal (BJD) remained tight-lipped on the name of its candidate.
The party's Election Coordination Committee for Bijepur Assembly Constituency held its second meeting at Naveen Nivas-BJD president Naveen Patnaik's residence here on Wednesday.
The party has made it clear that its candidate will file nomination papers before the returning officer at Padmapur on September 30, the last day for filing of nominations.
The party maintaining a stoic silence over the name of its candidate has left the media guessing.
"BJD's candidate will file nomination before the returning officer at Padmapur on 30th next. Our party party president will announce the name of the candidate at the appropriate time. The announcement can come any moment from our party president,"informed Prasanna Acharya, vice president of BJD and Rajya Sabha MP soon after the Election Coordination Committee for Bijepur Assembly Constituency was over.
Speaking to reporters, Acharya said that they had a detailed discussion over Bijepur bye-election at today's meeting.
"As per our assessment today, BJD will have an astounding victory. The reason being BJD is an organised party, its a party of the people and its leader is the most popular leader of Odisha. BJD has been with the people, will remain with the people so accordingly people will always remain with us," he asserted.
The BJD vice president said that the leaders, workers and office-bearers of the party will carry out responsibilities assigned to them wholeheartedly with utmost sincerity and devotion as they have done in earlier elections.
Similar lines were echoed by Kalikesh Narayan Singhdeo, a member of the BJD's Election Coordination Committee for Bijepur Assembly Constituency and MP from Bolangir.
"We discussed organisational matter. Different leaders were vested with different responsibilities. Since CM had contested and won from this seat and whosoever will be contesting from here will be the CM's representative, the election will be fought accordingly and so also Bijepur's development," stated Kalikesh Narayan Singhdeo.
The young Bolangir MP opined:"No bye-election is an easy job. We don't take any election lightly. We will fight this election on the basis of our organisation, Naveen Patnaik's work and image. We believe that the people will repose their faith on Naveen Patnaik and BJD."
He added that applications of all aspirants are with the CM and he would announce the name of the candidate at the appropriate time.
