Bhubaneswar: Ruling Biju Janta Dal (BJD) Assembly candidate Rita Sahu won the Bijepur By-polls with a colossal 97,994 margin at the end of 21 rounds. She broke records by scalping the highest ever votes in an Assembly election for the State.
With this win, she broke the record of party veteran Soumya Ranjan Patnaik who had won by a margin of 81,430 from Khandapada Assembly constituency.
BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik congratulated Sahu for her huge historic win. A staggering 1,35,957 people voted for her. It is important to note here that in last assembly elections at Bijepur when CM Naveen had contested, he had won with a margin of 57,122 votes.
Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP) candidate Sanat Gartia could only scalp 37,967 votes whereas Congress’ Dillip Panda could only manage to score 5,873 votes.
