Bhubaneswar: Following ruling BJD’s victory in yesterday’s Mayurbhanj Zilla Parishad Zone-32 by-poll which was earlier held by BJP, the three main parties BJD, BJP and Congress had their media reactions today.

BJD vice-president Surya Narayan Patro said, “The Zilla Parishad zone in which BJD has won the by-poll, never earlier BJD or Janata Party had won. Three times JMM had won there while BJP had won twice. Yesterday’s by-poll results show that all other parties have bitten the dust while BJD has won with a margin of 4,128 votes.”

“As a grain of rice proves its readiness and cooking status, the Zilla Parishad by-poll that was fought on party symbols just before the general election assumes significance. This will be the reflection in Odisha assembly election. The tall claims of 120 seats being made by BJP in Odisha can be assessed from this Zilla Parishad by-poll result,” asserted the senior BJD leader.

On the contrary, Odisha BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty defended, “Out of the total 82 booths, we had complained about 8 booths there before the State Election Commission and there is the problem. I need not argue here.”

“They (BJD) have won. It’s a fact, but 12 MLAs and one party-in-charge have distributed lots of work in Mayurbhanj flagarantly. The people of Mayurbhanj know well about such an act. We are waiting for the upcoming general election. The people of Mayurbhanj will give a fitting reply. The result will be evident in May next year,” the senior BJP leader asserted.

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati reacted, “On the verge of its extinction, a lamp ironically burns brighter. It’s a by-poll where 10 MLAs including the MP struggle together for the victory. But the general election is just the reverse. Such an exercise is not possible. The people think a lot to cast vote on whose favour.”

“This is by-poll election for which it has turned out to be a show-off business, a drama by the ruling party,” he lambasted.
