Bhubaneswar: As model code of conduct (MCC) is in force following the dates announced for the general elections, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today objected to the allegedly surrogate advertisements of certain Central schemes still being openly displayed by the BJP across the State meant for influencing the voters in gross violation of the MCC.

BJD delegation led by its spokesperson-cum-party IT Cell head Amar Patnaik lodged a written complaint with the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) today and demanded that those advertisements must be immediately removed or the hoardings covered up.

In his media reactions, BJD spokesperson Amar Patnaik said, “Today our party met the Chief Electoral Officer in a bid to lodge complaint against the adverstisements of Government of India everywhere. The advertisement of Ujjwala scheme is objectionable as model code of conduct is in force.”

He argued, “Now the photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union Ministers of BJP party in the advertisement have been omitted, but the same previous pictures are there along with the same messages. Hence, it has been indirectly targeted to influence the people at the Central Government level.”

“Today we demanded before the Chief Electoral Officer to completely remove or cover such surrogate advertisements. Besides this, advertisements on Clean Energy Cess, etc, have been put up everywhere. Those advertisements must be removed immediately as they violate model code of conduct,” BJD stated.

“This is being done in an indirect manner but in a pre-meditated wilful disdain of the model code of conduct. This was apprised to the Chief Electoral Officer today and he said he would examine it and take immediate action on it,” the BJD spokesperson stated.

On the contrary, no counter reactions were available from BJP as the sources remained unreachable till the filing of this news.
