Bhubaneswar: The BJD today moved the Election Commission against BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda over the latter using a private company's helicopter for election campaigning.
According to the BJD, the chopper used by Panda belongs to IMFA and it does not possess a commercial charter which is mandated as per Election Commission guidelines.
As per the mandate of the ECI, the helicopters need to have commercial charter and based on that a person can hire those for election campaign, BJD Spokesperson Sasmita Patra said.
Reacting to the complaint, Panda responded on Twitter today. He clarified, "I have used private helicopters in all prior elections. I also campaign in a private car, not taxi. As per EC rules, costs are deemed to be incurred and included in my poll accounts."
