BJD Demands 1 Week Ban On Dharmendra Pradhan For Campaigning At Polling Booth After Casting His Vote

23 April 2019

Bhubaneswar: The spokespersons of Biju Janata Dal met the Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar today to seek a one week ban on BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for gross violation of campaigning for the BJP at the polling booth after casting his vote today.

The BJD leaders submitted a written complaint with the CEO along with videographic and documentary evidence. “After casting his (Dharmendra Pradhan) vote today, he has campaigned for his party by providing a media byte which has been telecasted,” the complaint mentions.

“Campaigning for his political party and that too at the Polling Booth and this being telecasted across the state is a flagrant violation of the Model Code of Conduct and Election Guidelines by BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan,” the letter added.

Adherence to the rules and guidelines of EC have been cast into the burning coals by the habitual violator Dharmendra Pradhan, the conch party states.

The BJD leaders demanded strict and immediate action against Pradhan. “We demand in line with the precedents set nationally for political leaders in this election and the bans that they have been served by the Election Commission of India, it is becoming that Dharmendra Pradhan for this massive violation is banned for one week from campaigning for his party. If no action on this complaint is taken, then the spirit of a free and fair election would remain just a day-dream,” the letter concludes.

BJD also filed a complaint against Aparajita Sarangi for entering a polling booth in IRC village here between 2 pm and 3 pm with 20-25 persons that caused hurdles for the voters while polling officials remained silent spectators.

"This is creating large scale disturbance and is affecting the voters and these supporters having large presence inside the booth are bound to influence the voters inside it. This is a gross violation of the Election Commission guidelines and we demand strict action immediately be taken against BM MP candidate from Bhubaneswar Aparapta Sarangi and her supporters for breaking the law. Since the polling is going on immediate action is demanded and necessary," the complaint concludes.
