Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal on Monday condemned the brutal shootout in Khurda in which a senior BJP leader was killed by unidentified gunmen last night. Addressing a press conference here today, BJD spokesperson Lelin Mohanty requested the Election Commission and the police to expedite probe and book the perpetrators.

"This is a barbaric incident. We request the Election Commission for directing the police to trace the accused at the earliest. However powerful the accused may be, he should be booked as soon as possible," Mohanty said.

Senior BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said that BJD disaproves violence outrightly and asserted that Odisha has been peaceful during BJD regime since 2000. "It has been observed that violence has shot up in the State from 2015 and 2016 onward," Patra said.
