Bhubaneswar: Even as the Odisha Congress camp is upbeat about party president Rahul Gandhi’s repeated visits to the State, the BJD and BJP have said that Gandhi family scions tours would have no major impact on the voters.

BJD MLA (Junagarh), Dibyasankar Mishra said that during the Congress-led UPA Governemnt in the Centre, Rahul Gandhi had promised Kalahandi people that he would be their soldiers. But he never had the people of this land in his mind, said Mishra.

“Today when the party is out of power, Rahul Gandhi has come to show strength. It is ironical. Whatever development Kalahandi has seen, it has been during 2000 to 2019. Therefore, the people of Kalahandi have shown their faith in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” added Mishra.

BJP MLA (Padampur) Pradip Purohit said that there would be absolutely no impact of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Odisha. “This state has been ruled by the Congress for over 50 years and the people of Odisha have seen the adversities of this party’s regime,” he said.

He added that since the Congress has no rank and impact in Odisha, important leaders like Jogesh Singh and Naba Kishore Das have switched sides. “An already weak party, the Congress is becoming more and more unstable day in and day out,” said Purohit.

Playing the farmers' card, Koraput MLA and Congress Chief Whip, Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that farm loan waiver in Chhattisgarh was a pathbreaking step which forced the Centre and the States to think about farmers.

"Rahul Gandhi's visits is going to have an impact on the voters and Congress would bounce back emphatically in Odisha," Bahinipati said.
