Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today had a piece of advice for the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress in the State.
The ruling party asked the two parties to refrain from passing remarks merely for the sake of politicking and instead, cooperate with the administration for unraveling the truth in IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhayaya corruption case.
"The BJP passing a remark in every case is totally inappropriate. The BJP and Congress rant for a CBI inquiry in each and every case. One thing they forget is that what will the CBI investigate? Will it investigate on the basis of an inquiry or investigate the case fresh from the start? The CBI doesn't have such powers. The media in Odisha have a fair idea of what the CBI does," said BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb answering to the media on the allegations of the BJP and Congress in connection with the recent arrest of IAS officer Bijay Ketan Upadhayaya, former Director Horticulture by the Vigilance wing for taking allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
The BJD spokesperson said that Upadhayaya keeping his side of things is quite natural of him and on the other hand, if in the investigation it is found that he is not guilty, the authorities those who have taken the decision will be proved to be wrong.
"It is within the knowledge of everyone that the State government is implementing 5T and the Chief Minister after winning for the fifth time is stressing on transparency. The action taken could not have been done without any basis. So I feel there might some mystery which will come to the fore after the inquiry is conducted. So it is only time which will tell whether Upadhayaya is right or the authorities who have taken action against him are right," he added.
The BJP had earlier alleged that no work gets done in this government without bribing at every level and trapping of the IAS officer was a image building stunt of Naveen Patnaik.
"That individual has not taken the bribe directly. Questions are being raised can an IAS officer take a bribe of only Rs One lakh which indirectly means that IAS officers do take bribes of much higher amounts. So this is a stunt for Naveen Patnaik's image building,” alleged former MP and senior BJP leader Balabhadra Majhi.
Congress said that corruption was a serious malady which has gripped the entire country and action needs to be taken against those involved in scams involving crores of rupees rather than lakhs.
"Crores of rupees is getting siphoned off, no one is catching them. Corruption is a serious issue, a serious malady that has gripped the country. Who will end corruption in this country? Administration, government or political party who will end it? The way the political parties are contesting elections, do you believe that corruption will be eliminated from the country?" remarked Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik.
"Officials at block level take a bribe of Rs 1 lakh so an IAS officer taking a bribe of that amount is unbelievable. Anyway, it is a serious offence. Those involved in corruption amounting to crores should be caught," he added.
