Cuttack: Bird flu scare has struck Khapuria area in silver city Cuttack today as 435 ducks in a breeding centre were culled here today. In fear of infection, ducks and over 50 chickens in one kilometer radius of the breeding centre were also culled.

A team led by Chief District Veterinary Officer (CDVO) Lokanath Behera also took stock of the situation in nearby areas.

As many as 9000 eggs were destroyed too. A seven-member team has been constituted for the entire process. People in the area have also been advised by the authorities to not consume chicken for the next three months.

Food safety officials have issued notices to chicken centres to stop selling chicken and poultry-related items. While sale has been banned in the affected area for three months, shops all across Cuttack district have been directed not to sell chicken for the next four-five days.
