Bhubaneswar: Odisha's political veteran Bijoy Mohapatra seemed to be a happy man after the fresh poll dates for ajourned Patkura election were announced by the Election Commission of India. As per a notification issued by the ECI on Wednesday, the elections to the Patkura Assembly constituency will be held on May 19.

Following the death of sitting MLA and BJD candidate for Patkura, Bed Prakash Agarwalla, the polling in the constituency was shrouded in uncertainity. There were speculations that the elections might be held after the announcement of the General Election results. This could have serious repurcussions on Bijay's chances to clinch a victory, political experts had observed.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Mohapatra said that the people of Patkura did not want the election process to be delayed. "I welcome ECI's decision to conduct the election at an appropriate date," he said.
