Cuttack: Senior BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra, who was arrested by Bargarh police in the Banabira firing case this year, got conditional bail from Orissa High Court on Tuesday. Mishra had been arrested from his Sambalpur town-based home soon after the Bijepur bypoll.

Mishra’s lawyer Pitamber Acharya informed media that the High Court has granted the conditional bail against two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. His movement out of station has also been restricted by the High Court as he has been ordered to seek prior permission of the lower court dealing with the case.

It has been alleged that the Banabira firing and mob attack was allegedly committed by BJP workers after being instigated by Jaynarayan Mishra in which a local BJD worker succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Cuttack SCB after being referred from Burla VIMSAR then.

Odisha Labour Minister Sushant Singh’s younger brother had also sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Mishra is at present undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi for his cardiac ailment.

The senior BJP leader is the former MLA of Sambalpur assembly constituency as well a former minister of Odisha during the BJD-BJP alliance government prior to 2009.
