Bhubaneswar Top Cop Assures To Make City 'Drug-Free'

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police will take more tough measures in the next 15 to 30 days to make Bhubaneswar drug-free. All ACPs, IICs of different police stations have been given special instructions to take necessary action in this regard, said Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi on Monday.

He informed that a Drug Task Force had been formed under the leadership of ACP Sanjay Kumar Singh in the month of September last year. The team has till date registered 56 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A total of 105 persons have been arrested out of which more than 40 are from outside Bhubaneswar i.e. from Khurda, Balasore, Jaleswar, Pipli, Baripada, etc.

The Drug Task Force today arrested a drug dealer from near Sainik School Bhubaneswar and seized around 100 gm of brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh from his possession. The accused identified as Budhia Khan of Rajpur village under Jaleswar block of Balasore district used to procure brown sugar from Lalgola in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

Just two days back, three persons including a woman had been arrested by the Laxmisagar Police and had seized 44 grams of brown sugar from their possession.

Sarangi informed that with every seizure of brown sugar, the Commissionerate Police is attempting to find the roots of where the narcotic substance is being obtained. A total of 1302 gm brown sugar worth around Rs 1.5 crore has been seized in the last four months. Besides, 40 two-wheelers, 6 four-wheelers, 103 mobile phones and Rs 6 lakh cash have been seized.
