Bhubaneswar: Salia Sahi dwellers on Friday came out in large numbers to protest against the eviction in front of the State Assembly at the Lower PMG area.

The demonstration was held jointly by three associations of namely- Sriram Nagar Basti Unnayan Parishad, Jagannath Parishad and Janta Nagar. They blocked the heartline of the city with slogans, posters and banners.

The slum dwellers alleged that they were not given a prior notice before the eviction and hence the eviction must cease immediately. And if the eviction does continue, then the State Government must give them 20x30 square foot residential plot within the City.

To keep the law and order situation under control, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu, and DCP (Traffic) Sagarika Nath with several Police officers were present at the spot.

It is important to note here that the dwellers have been living on government land after encroaching them several years ago. The eviction drive is to eradicate illegal encroachment as part of road expansion.
