Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Bar Association while celebrating the 171st birth anniversary of Utkal Gaurab Madhusudan Das on Sunday has demanded conferring Bharat Ratna on him posthumously.

The lawyers’ body put forth the demand in front of Odisha Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court KS Jhaveri and Orissa High Court Judge Pramath Patnaik.

They also demanded to install a photo of Madhusudan Das in every court of Odisha. Besides, the dignitaries were also apprised with other issues of the Bar Assocation.

Like every year, this year the prestigious Madhu Samman by the Bar Association was awarded to Justice Pramath Patnaik, a former member of the Bar, who had been elevated as an Additional Judge of Orissa High Court, subsequently transferred to Jharkhand and subsequently came back again recently.

A poetry collection, specially written by advocates, was also unveiled on this occasion by the dignitaries.

Addressing media persons after the event, the Governor said, "There is the rule of the law, the lawyers rule the law and the law rules the land so virtually the lawyers, the advocates and the pleaders are the rulers. Nobody can dare to go away from the constitution."

Let it be any Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Minister or spiritual teacher, once they violate the code of conduct of the constitution they can be planted in jail and they can be punished, he added.
