Bhubaneswar: As the flow of passengers as well as traffic at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the capital city of Odisha is growing day by day with more and more flights operating here daily, BPIA from today onwards has also got the prepaid taxi facility.

On the occasion, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty informed, “A prepaid taxi facility is in almost every big city having international airport. The police also provide the necessary support following which the people have the impression that they would reach their right destinations without being cheated.”

“Keeping that in view as well as the increasing traffic here at the international airport, we had thought of providing this prepaid taxi service. In this venture, the airport taxi association have cooperated us while the airport authority has provided space for it here, he stated.”

He added, “It will now be jointly manned by an employee of Police Commissionerate and also an employee from the taxi association. We have also prepared a rate chart in consultation with the RTO which will be implemented by the prepaid taxi counter.”

He also informed, “For 5 km travel, Rs 210 fare has to be paid, Rs 285 fare between 5-10 km, Rs 360 fare between 10-15 km and Rs 435 fare between 15-20 km. All the places have been mentioned. The desirous passengers who would like to hire, they can book the ticket at this counter. There is no need for paying directly the fare to the taxi driver. The drivers will collect their day-long due from this counter.”

“People will prefer prepaid taxi as it is being run in partnership with the police and it would instill trust and dispel any apprehension of being cheated. OLA and UBER are also giving good service, but some sorts of indiscipline or driver’s monopoly is coming to our notice. That problem won’t be here and if at all it happens we can promptly solve it,” remarked the top cop.

In his reactions, BPIA Director Suresh Kumar Hota said, “Passengers will avail the service at a reasonable price. The rate has been decided by the RTO. It will be operated after proper verification of the taxi drivers. This service has been supported by the Commissionerate Police. Thus, it will be managed properly and we hope it will cater to the satisfaction of the passengers.”

“Prepaid segment is different as it has assurance of safety and security as it being operated by the support of Commissioner of Police. In other airports also you will find being operated by the cab aggregators as well as the prepaid. It’s up to the choice of the passenger. If they choose this prepaid service, they can or prefer OLA and UBER,” he viewed.
