Bhubaneswar: As the nation is observing 31st Road Safety Week, many police officers set an example by donating blood at a camp organised at Traffic Police Station in Bhubaneswar on Monday to create traffic awareness.
Lead among the blood donors were Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Traffic DCP Sagarika Nath. They were followed by many journalists, social activists and students.
After performing the noble deed, Commissioner Sarangi said, "Instead of preaching or requesting others we must lead by example; ask people to be aware and not spill their blood unnecessarily in accidents and be available to help others."
DCP Sahoo said, "The message of the blood donation camp is that we must work towards a noble cause. Our aim should be to save a life. We must drive in accordance with traffic rules so as not to shed blood on the roads but to donate it to benefit others."
Traffic DCP Nath said, "We want to motivate youth not to indulge in overspeeding and wrongful overtaking. You also have the responsibility of others using the road, therefore, don't donate blood on road but donate it at the camp."
The blood donation camp was organised by the Traffic Wing of Commissionerate Police to create awareness on road safety. The organisers have set a target to collect over 300 units of blood till 5 PM today.
