Bhubaneswar: Biju Patnaik International Airport  (BPIA) undergo maintenance from November this year to June 2020, during which flight operations will be affected. Airport Director, Suresh Hota said that flight services are likely to be rescheduled, as the runway will undergo re-carpeting.

“We are planning for runway re-carpeting with effect from November 1 to March 31, in the first phase. We have requested the DGCA for permission. There will be closure during this period in the night and airlines have to reschedule,” BPIA Director, Hota said.

In the first phase, from November to March, operations will be suspended from 10 pm to 5:30 am. In the second phase, April through June, operations will be suspended in the daytime from 10:30 am to 6 PM.

The re-carpeting of the runway is a regular maintenance work which is done every 10 years. The re-carpeting of the runway was last taken up at Biju Patnaik airport in 2007, Hota added.

“The re-carpeting proposal has been approved. Due to the scale of work and safety, we have decided to close the runway during night hours from November 1. We are carrying out all assessments before we approach the DGCA."
