Bhubaneswar Airport Mishap: OHRC Orders Contractor To Pay Rs 2.5 Lakh To Deceased's Kin

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today ordered Dillip Construction Ltd, to pay an interim compensation of Rs 2, 50,000 to the next of kin of deceased Antaryami Guru and Rs 50,000 to the injured Nabakishore Swain.

While Guru is the person who was killed in the fatal accident that occurred on Friday  in Biju Patnaik International Airport here  during casting of the roof of a under-construction building linking terminal-1 and 2, Swain is the person injured in the incident.

Acting on a complaint filed by one Lalatendu Das that both the deceased and the injured are poor labourers and they don't have means for cremation of deceased and to meet the medical expenses of the injured, the OHRC observed, "In the meantime, we recommend that the contractor shall pay an interim compensation of Rs 2,50,000 to the NoK of the deceased Antaryami Guru and Rs 50,000 to the injured Nabakishore Swain by 11.02.2020 positively and on his failure the Airport authorities shall make the payment and recover the said amount from the contractor".

The OHRC has issued notice to Dillip Construction Ltd and Director BPIA to submit their replies by February 11, 2020, along with compliance report.

The rights body has also granted the prayers of the complainant to implead the Airport authorities as a party.
