Bharat Bandh: Odisha Govt Declares Holiday For Schools, Colleges And Universities

Bhubaneswar: Bharat Bandh has been called on Tuesday and Wednesday, by around 11 trade unions across the country. Following the announcement, Government of Odisha has declared a Public Holiday for all educational institutions on Tuesday, Janaury 8, 2019.

“All schools, both government and private, will remain shut on Tuesday, in view of the Bandh. About Wednesday, we will take a call after assessing the situation tomorrow,” School and Mass Education Department Secretary, Pradipta Mahapatra said.

On the other hand, the Colleges and Universities across the State will also remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Public transport is also expected to be severely affected by the Bharat Bandh.

The Home Department has issued a notification advising officers and employees of Government Departments to reach Secretariat and Heads of Department building before 9:30 am on Tuesday.

"Entry of visitors will be restricted on that day (Tuesday). Persons having prior appointment and whose business is pressing and immediate will be given entry passes with special permission," the notification read.
