Besides 938 Regular Doctors, 622 More To Be Appointed On Contractual Basis: Odisha Health Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Minister Pratap Jena today confirmed that 622 contractual doctors will be appointed soon, besides the 938 regular doctors that were appointed on Thursday.

"938 doctors qualified in screening process and they were immediately given appointment. Out of them, 600 are brand new doctors and other 338 were contractual doctors earlier, who will now hold regular posts," he said.

"Apart from that, 622 others, who had not qualified in OPSC screening, will be employed as contractual doctors now," he added.

In a bid to further strengthen the healthcare system, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday approved the appointment of 938 MBBS doctors. With this the number of doctors in Odisha now stands at 5,707 from the total strength of 6,719.The percentage of vacancies has now reduced from 29 per cent to 15 per cent, with only 1,012 posts remaining vacant.
