Bhubaneswar: BJD supremo-cum-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced the name of Sabitri Agarwalla, wife of late MLA Bed Prakash Agarwalla, as party candidate for the constituency which is going to poll on May 19.

The announcement was made at Naveen Niwas in presence of Sabitri and her son Sanjay Agarwalla.

BJD had earlier fielded Bed Prakash as its candidate for the assembly seat but it was after his demise on April 20 that the election in the assembly constituency, scheduled to be held today (April 29), was postponed.

On April 24, the Election Commission of India (ECI) released a notification stating May 1 as the last date for filing nominations to the said assembly seat, May 2 as the date of scrutiny of nominations and May 4 as the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

The ECI mentioned May 19 as the date on which poll shall, if necessary, be taken and May 27 as the date before which the election shall be completed. The poll hours for the specified election have been set from 7 AM to 6 PM, if necessary.
