Beating COVID-19 In Odisha: 'Lockdown For Knockdown' Says Bagchi

Bhubaneswar: Justifying the near lockdown announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in about 40% of the State, Chief spokesperson of the Odisha government on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi said it is 'Lockdown for knockdown'.

"If contagion breaks out no government system in the world can manage it, so we should not let contagion to break out, therefore we are saying it's lockdown for a knockdown," he asserted.

The Chief spokesperson cited the example of California in the US which has gone for a complete lockdown in its fight against coronavirus.

He said that California holds a special place in the world economy being the richest States in the world.

To further justify the lockdown, Bagchi drew a comparison between the population of California with that of Odisha.

"Odisha has a population of 4.5 crore and California has a population of 4 crore. This entire population of 4 crore has been prohibited from coming out of their homes. The whole of California is under lockdown," he pointed out.
