Bargarh Sexual Assault Viral Video: Two More Accused Nabbed By Police

Bargarh: Within a couple of hours after arresting four persons on charges of sexually assaulting a girl in college uniform, Bargarh police have nabbed two others who were involved in the incident.

The accused have been identified as Umakant Bhoi, Jayaprakash Bhoi, Ajit Barik and Hota Hussein. They were arrested from Bukuramunda under Paikmal police limits.

Two of their associates, Sahil Barik and Nutan Barik, who were on the run, were taken into custody on Sunday afternoon.

Revealing details about the video, the police informed that the incident occurred near Khaira Dam in the first week of October this year, when the girl and her friend were hanging out in the area.

The district police took suo motto cognisance of the matter after the video was circulated on social media and registered a case at Paikamal police station.

On the basis of details revealed during preliminary interrogation of the accused, cops who are on a manhunt would be able to arrest the other miscreants soon, the police said.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Police DG Dr RP Sharma said, the accused have been booked under Sections 341, 354, 354(B), 34 of IPC and Sections 66(A), 66(B) and 67 of the Information Technology Act.

“SP Bargarh has been directed to personally monitor the progress of investigation. The statement of the victim has been recorded according to which three had allegedly outraged the modesty of the girl, while another was filing the act.”

The cops have been conducting raids at multiple locations in the district, after a video showing a group of around a dozen miscreants sexually assaulting a college student and roughing up her male friend, was circulated on social media.

A couple of weeks back, Dr Sharma had issued an advisory to all district SPs and police stations to initiate strict action against perpetrators of criminal acts of this nature.
