**Bargarh: ** After setting afire his pest-affected paddy fields on Tuesday, frustrated farmer Brunda Sahoo of Kalapani in Bargarh district of western Odisha comitted suicide by consuming poison amid his fields.
As he was discovered having taken such a drastic step, his family members rushed him first to the district headquarters hospital and then to Burla-based VIMSAR where he succumbed to his treatment.
Sahu, along with some farmers, had set his standing crops, cultivated on a half acre land, on fire on Tuesday.
They complained that the pesticide supplied to them by the government’s Cooperation Department was of inferior quality and failed to save their crop from pest attack.
