Attempted Kidnap And Rape On Bhubaneswar Girl Foiled, Accused Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the capital as the news of an attempt to kidnap and rape a college-going girl spread.

The incident occurred on late Sunday when the Unit 1 resident girl was going to attend nature’s call. The accused allegedly grabbed her, covered her mouth, and made a bid to kidnap her. He also tried to rape her but failed in all. The survivor fought him off and escaped, Capital Police Station IIC Girija Shankar.

The accused has been identified as Ajya Bagh who originally hails from West Bengal and works as a house painter in Bhubaneswar, said Police reports. He lives in slums of Unit 1 area here. The survivor and the accused did not personally know each other, confirmed Capital Police Station IIC Girija Shankar.

The survivor lodged a complaint at Capital Police Station following which the accused was held for interrogation.

The accused was later arrested and has been forwarded to court.

Addressing the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said, “A case of outraging the modesty of a woman has been registered under IPC Section 354. The accused has been arrested and will be forwarded to court.”
