Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels to the Nation and the State yet again, Dutee Chand broke her own national record in women’s 100m and qualified for the semi-finals of the event at the Asian Athletics Championships in Doha on Sunday.
Dutee finished the track with a timing of 11.28 seconds to beat her previous national record of 11.29 seconds. She had set her previous record at the Inter-State meet in Guwahati last year.
On her achievement, Odisha Chief Minister tweeted, "Congratulate ace sprinter Dutee Chand on breaking her own national record to qualify for women’s 100m semifinal in the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha. Best wishes."
In a video shared by Athletics Federation of India, Dutee said, “My timing was good and I also created a new national record. I just want people to pray for me so that I do well in the finals and win the gold medal.”
However, there is some bad news for the Indian team as Asian Games silver medallist Hima Das failed to finish the women’s 400m semifinal after the 19-year-old suffered back pain and pulled out halfway through the race.
The 23rd Asian Athletics Championships is being conducted at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha.
