Armed Maoists Beat Road Construction Workers, Burn Vehicles In Odisha’s Rayagada

22 January 2020

Rayagada: Unleashing fresh wave of terror, armed Maoists attacked a group of road construction workers and torched three vehicles.

The incident occurred yesterday late night near Gumma village of Niyamgiri area in Rayagada district.

A group of road construction workers with their contractor were working on a road connecting Buduni village near Niyamgiri hills to Gumma village of the Maoist-infested area, said Rayagada SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.

Opposing the construction, late last night about 40-50 armed Maoists entered where the workers had camped and asked them to leave the area. The insurgents threatened them with dire consequences if they failed to comply and even brutally beat the workers, added Rayagada SP.

To establish their irrational demand, they torched three road construction vehicles present at the site and put-up three posters stating their claim.

Rayagada SP said that they have received a complaint regarding the attack and they probe the matter in detail.
