Bhubaneswar: “Men are mortal. So are ideas. An idea needs propagation as much as a plant needs watering. Otherwise both will wither and die.” This remark of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is apt for an English lecturer from developing district Kalahandi.
After receiving the 'Best Language Teacher of the Year' award at the International Education Awards 2019 in Goa on December 21, Panchanan Duria, a native of Dharmagarh block in Kalahandi district and presently engaged as Lecturer in English at RC College in Kodinga of Nabarangpur district, has added another feather in his cap.
Duria received the 'Global Teacher Role Model Award-2019' in the category of Best Innovative Academic Concept/Ideas. The award was presented at the Global Teachers Conference 2019 organised by MVLA Trust at Mumbai in Maharashtra on December 22.
All the credit goes to his idea behind the launch of 'English Support' programme in 2013 to teach English language to rural youths of KBK region with a mission to bring them at par with their urban counterparts. Duria has achieved a great success in the initiative as many more students and faculties across the State and Nation have joined the mission.
The attraction of the 'English Support' programme is that students have to pay a minimum of Rs 100 to 200 as registration fees for one month course, held mostly during summer or Durga Puja vacations. The major expenses for the mission are being borne by Duria and his team from their own pockets.
It is worthwhile to mention that Duria has also penned a book 'Ripples' used by Class VIII students of CBSE. He was recently felicitated by Citizens Forum Organisation, Kalahandi for his contribution towards empowering rural youths. While Duria wishes to extend the duration of the programme, all the faculties have their own personal jobs and can dedicate time to the mission only during the vacations.
