Soro (Balasore): Though the State Government has made Anganwadi Centres as well as educational institutions punishment free zones, a deplorable act has been reported from an Anganwadi Centre of Saundia village under Khaira Police Station (PS) limits in the district here.

Due to the corporal punishment inflicted allegedly by the concerned Anganwadi worker, the left hand of a girl child has suffered fracture. While the four-year old girl child has been identified as the daughter of a local villager named Mukunda Das, the acused Anganwadi worker has been identified as Saraswati Jena.

Following the incident, the injured child was first rushed to Khaira Hospital and later on shifted to Soro Hospital.

Aggrieved father Mukunda Das has simultaneously lodged complaint with the Khaira PS and Khaira CDPO. The CDPO said that action will be taken if found guilty after probe.

In his reactions, the girl child’s father said, “My daughter had been to the Anganwadi at 7 am. The Anganwadi Didi has done this. When my daughter returned home crying, we noticed that her hand had swollen up. When enquired, my daughter narrated that Didi slapped and pushed her. After rushing her to hospital, we have come to the police station for filing complaint.”

“Name of the Anganwadi Didi is Saraswati Jena and the name of the Centre is Saundia Anganwadi,” he informed.

Khaira CDPO Narmada Dey said, “I had summoned both the Anganwadi worker and helper. From their statements I came to know that they haven’t hurt the child. Rather she got hurt while playing with her other friends. Truth will be unravelled after our spot visit tomorrow. We’ll enquire into the matter visiting the Anganwadi. We have sent the child to Soro for treatment.”

“The child is fine. As the hand has swelling, we have sent her to Soro for x-ray,” she informed.
