Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the recent announcement made by Odisha Chief Minister on the enhancement of monthly honorarium being paid to the state-wide Anganwadi workers and helpers, Union Women & Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi has claimed that the credit goes to the Centre not the State.

Countering Maneka Gandhi’s claims, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said, “The statement on Anganwadi Didis made by the Hon’ble Union Minister (Maneka Gandhi) is contradictory. Today the Anganwadi Didis are receiving Rs 7,500 every month. 70% of the expenditure is being met by the State Government and the Centre is spending 30%.”

“If this data is wrong, the Union Minister should make it clear how it is wrong. We challenge the Union Minister to dare to clarify what is share of the State and the Centre towards the Rs 7,500 monthly honorarium.”

Convening a press meet at New Delhi today, Union Women & Child Development Minister has claimed that the Centre used to pay Rs 3,000 basic. Any State Government added to it whatever they could. Odisha Government was adding Rs 3,000 more. Now the Centre has augmented the basic to Rs 4,500. But Odisha’s Rs 3,000 has not been raised. Hence, whatever has been increased now, it is being contributed by the Centre.
