Bhubaneswar: Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is not about taking away citizenship, its rather about granting citizenship, stated former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah here today.

"No one is going to lose citizenship. Because CAA is not a law that can take away citizenship but about granting citizenship," said Shah addressing a pro-CAA rally organized by the BJP here at the Janata Maidan.

Shah added that CAA is meant to provide citizenship to the lakhs of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians who took refuge in India after facing persecution in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh following the partition of the country.

"I want to tell the people of the country from here that the Opposition is spreading misinformation, inciting people, creating riots; no one is going to lose his/her citizenship due to CAA. I want to especially assure minority community particularly Muslim brothers and sisters none of them will lose citizenship," clarified Shah.

The former BJP national president told the gathering that Prime Minister Narendra Modi by enacting CAA has fulfilled the promise made by Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and Jawaharlal Nehru to the lakhs and crores of people who have come to India after facing persecution in neighbouring countries.

"By bringing in CAA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has protected the human rights of these people," he added.
