Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born renowned scientist Ajit Kumar Mohanty was appointed the Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on Wednesday. The Personnel Ministry order came yesterday stating that Mohanty was the new chief of country’s premier multi-disciplinary nuclear research facility.
According to reports, he has been appointed for a tenure of three years. Currently, he is the Director of Physics Group in BARC and also holds the position of Director in Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Mohanty, 59, has specialized in basic physics and has experience in particle collisions. He has also worked on the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. He also pl;ayed a key role in setting up India's deepest underground laboratory at Jadugoda.
The BARC is a multi-disciplinary research centre with extensive infrastructure for advanced research and development covering the entire spectrum of nuclear science, engineering and related areas.
